Traffic and Parking – Introduction
Almost without exception, any meeting of residents of the Calthorpe Estate always includes a discussion about the problems of Traffic & Parking.
Three major commuter routes run through parts of the Estate (Hagley Road, Bristol Road and Pershore Road) and massive hospital, University, residential and commercial developments are bringing in ever increasing amounts of traffic and demand for parking, for which no adequate/effective provision has been made.
Edgbaston, including the Calthorpe Estate and adjacent areas, is at breaking point with high levels of pollution due to slow moving traffic and blocked roads that restrict movements of buses, interrupt refuse collection and delay emergency services.
Parking on pavements and in dangerous locations is commonplace; causing safety issues.
