What we

do

Calthorpe Residents Society has been serving the local community for over 50 years. It was formed in 1971 with the purpose of: ‘safeguarding and improving the interests of the residents who live on the Calthorpe Estate’

The Society continues to work to create and maintain a better local environment by supporting Edgbaston Conservation Area and working with Calthorpe Estates on all aspects of the Scheme of Management.

What-We-do
What-We-do
Advocacy

CRS campaigns on and champions issues that matter to our members. We work with key local organisations, often acting as a bridge between the residents and stakeholders (Calthorpe Estates and its property managers, Birmingham City Council, the Police etc).

Conservation

CRS is involved in ensuring the Estate remains an attractive and desirable area in which to live and work. We monitor and review planning applications and developments on the estate and offer help and guidance to individuals and groups as required.

Conservation
Community

CRS fosters a sense of community on the Estate by organising interesting and engaging local events where members can meet. These include, the Annual General Meeting, talks on a range of topics, visits to nearby gardens and places of interest, guided walks, and convivial social events.

Communication

CRS encourages two-way communication.
• Regular newsletter sent out by email to all members and regular emails sent out on local activities
• Website and local notice boards
• Presence at local events – CRS has a regular stall at Edgbaston Artisan Market

Traffic and Safety

Reflecting residents’ concerns, Traffic and Safety issues are extremely important for CRS. We liaise closely with the local Police and Councillors to ensure residents’ issues are known and addressed and attend Police & Community Together meetings.

Environment

CRS works towards preserving our unique built and natural environment.

We arrange regular litter picking events. We are also particularly focused on preserving Edgbaston’s trees.
